Good morning,
I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year! As I reflect on the tragic event that occurred in our county, I pray each day for continued healing for everyone affected.
I want to begin by thanking all my staff who worked through the holidays. Often, the people behind the scenes, from 911 dispatchers and detention officers to patrol deputies, spend holidays and countless hours away from their families to keep everyone safe. Words cannot express my sincere appreciation for the job they do every day! If you see any of these hard-working men or women out, please thank them. With that said, I know there's a lot of negativity toward law enforcement on social media these days. After being in this profession for almost 43 years, I know there are bad law enforcement officers. I can also tell you no one despises a lousy law enforcement officer as much as a good law enforcement officer. Just a reminder to everyone out there saying these negative things about law enforcement, these men and women are committed to protecting you and laying down their lives for you each and every day. No matter how much one may hate us, we will be there for you when you call!
After several checkpoints on New Year's Eve, I am happy to report no one was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. However, several criminal arrests were made during the checkpoints.
