SHERIFF MIKE KNOEDL - WEEKLY UPDATE 02/09/2024

Good morning,

This last week started off with a bang! We were called to a residence off Highway 79 where a resident fired a shot near a Fordyce Patrol Officer who was answering a call for service. I arrived on the scene shortly after to discover the suspect would not come out of the residence and surrender. After trying to talk the suspect out of the residence with no luck, I contacted the Arkansas State Police SWAT team and had them headed our way. Finally, I was able to obtain a phone number for the suspect inside the house, and after a brief discussion, two people surrendered peacefully and were taken into custody. I want to thank the Arkansas State Police, Fordyce Police Department, and my personnel for working together to end this with a peaceful resolution.

Next, a simple stop involving the Fordyce Police Department and two of my Deputies escalated quickly after the suspect decided to flee on foot from Officers. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was tackled by a Fordyce Officer. A loaded Glock pistol with an extended magazine pistol was discovered on the suspect. This suspect was arrested and taken to jail after discovering he was already on probation. Another dangerous weapon taken off of the streets due to our agencies working closely together! This was a very dangerous incident that could have turned bad quickly. Kudos to everyone involved.

Mr. Rucker and his crew worked in the city on Jackson Street picking up trash at the beginning of the week. They moved over and started in front of the Sonic and cleaned up to Fourth Street. Later in the week, he completed trash pickup on county roads 126, 117, and 116, finishing up on CR 260. They finished their week cleaning up around the detention center and hauling off scrap metal that was here when I took office. We have it looking much better around here now thanks to them!
