Good morning,
I'm hoping everyone has enjoyed a good week. The weather has been great to be outside and listen to the cicadas! I don't know about everyone else, but I'm ready for them to disappear.
I want to start this week's report by recognizing National Law Enforcement Officer's Week. This week is dedicated to all fallen officers who are memorialized in Washington by having their names placed on the memorial wall. According to FBI data, from 2021 to 2023, more officers were feloniously killed (194) than in any consecutive three-year period in the past 20 years (73 officers in 2021, 61 officers in 2022, and 60 officers in 2023). We have lost 3 officers in Arkansas in 2023. I'm asking everyone to please pray for the families of these fallen officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. So many people today are quick to judge law enforcement and seem to have all the answers. I challenge them to wear the badge for a day and talk to me later. Remember our fallen and thank these brave men and women for the sacrifice they make each day to keep you safe!
I want to recognize my deputies and the job they do each day. I've been blessed since taking office with the team I have, and I never take them for granted. Most people will never understand the bond law enforcement has. We're all willing to die for each other at a moment's notice if need be. We're not just coworkers, we are all family!
Mr. Rucker and his crew have been busy this week mowing. They have completed yard work at the Senior Citizen Center, Dallas County Health Department, and the Detention Center. They have worked on setting up the new building that houses all radio equipment for the county. This new building will ensure that the new equipment installed will be safe from vandalism.
On a personal note, we need prayers for Major Mike Foster's daughter, Madison Dorman. Madison has been diagnosed with viral encephalitis. She is currently hospitalized at UAMS undergoing treatment. She will be there for an extended period taking antiviral medication for at least the next 21 days. She has shown a little improvement in the last few days but has a long journey in front of her. Keep the prayers coming!
The Click it or Ticket Campaign will begin May 20 - June 2nd.
Law Enforcement will be stepping up patrols leading up to the holiday weekend to make sure seatbelt use is being complied with.
