SHERIFF MIKE KNOEDL - WEEKLY UPDATE 07/03/2024

Good morning,

This week's report is coming to you early due to the upcoming holiday weekend.

I want to let you know that much has changed since my last week's report. Our community has been traumatized by the events from Friday, June 21. All I can say right now is that I have witnessed an entire community come together to support each other to begin the healing process. I attended four funerals in four days and experienced the outpouring of love and compassion to honor those victims of this tragedy. Words cannot express how proud I am of all the citizens of Dallas County. Next, I want to thank everyone who has reached out via text or call to check on me. If I haven't texted or called you back, I will. Next, I want to address the response to the donation account I set up immediately after the incident. At last check, there was close to 50K in the account to be dispersed to the victims' families and the injured Fordyce Police Officer. These funds will be distributed evenly to the victims beginning next week.

If you weren't present yesterday during the re-opening of our Mad Butcher Grocery store it was truly an overwhelming sight to see!! There were no empty parking spots available, and the store was full. I witnessed people with a range of emotions as they entered the store. It was an awesome event to witness! Thank you to our partners at Mad Butcher for making this happen as soon as possible to assist our community with the healing process.

I want to move on to some more business that occurred this week. On Sunday night a search warrant was executed at a residence in Fordyce. This is one of the larger drug investigations we have been conducting since I took office. We began surveillance on a suspect back in February of this year. All of this hard work and dedication paid off on Sunday night. We, along with the Fordyce Police Department, seized over three pounds of narcotics, including methamphetamine, powder cocaine, crack cocaine, and a sizable cash seizure. I want to recognize Sergeant Jordan Ables for overseeing this complex, long term investigation. This was a team effort from all deputies during the investigation. This arrest alone will have a big impact on the distribution of dangerous drugs in our community. Speaking of, we are currently investigating a case involving the most dangerous drug out there, Fentanyl. There will be more information on this at a later date.

I want to take a moment and recognize our 911 Dispatchers at this time. They are mainly behind the scenes personnel that are rarely recognized. After reviewing the tapes, all I could think is, wow! As calls were coming in, they never once panicked. They answered calls and were directing resources to us in a timely professional manner. They are our lifeline during times like these and my sincere gratitude for a job well done while dealing with total chaos!

Mr. Rucker and his crew have been back at it this week cleaning up our county. He finished what he started last week on State Highway 7 from the Ouachita County Line to Dalark. He and his crew picked up trash on Dallas County Roads 207, 128, and the west end of County Road 113. Additionally, the crew mowed and trimmed around the Sheriff's Office. His crew also cleaned up around the Old Post Office, Extension Office, Ambulance Office, and the Chamber of Commerce.

Keep praying for the victim's family and our entire community!
