Good morning,
I hope everyone likes this cooler weather we've had the last couple of days. I know I'm ready for it to hang around for a while.
I want to personally reach out and thank you for your donation to help victims of the shooting that took place here in Fordyce. Thanks to you and hundreds of others, we raised over $72,000 through donations at Fordyce Bank & Trust. These funds will go a long way to help the 13 people who were directly affected by this horrific tragedy. For your donation, you will be receiving a tax receipt from Victims First, the organization that we partnered with to distribute the funds.
I've seen a lot in my 37 years in law enforcement, but this hit home in a way I've not experienced before. We experienced a terrifying tragedy that propelled us into grief, but also into the national spotlight. I'm not proud that people all over America learned about Fordyce because of this event, but I am pleased they saw more than 300 people show up for the vigil, a grocery store repaired and reopened just two weeks after the incident, and that a town with a population of just about 3500 people could raise that much money to help its own.
The generosity was almost overwhelming, but I am not surprised. I've called Fordyce home since 1989. I take immense pride in serving this county and its residents. It's where I raised my sons and I've seen firsthand for decades that Fordyce is full of caring people who are quick to help when neighbors are in need.
What this community has been through is horrible, but my prayer and belief is that we can and will recover. We will never forget. The lives of those we lost on that terrible morning will forever be in our memories and our hearts.
Thank you again for contributing to help and for your continued prayers as we move forward together #fordycestrong.
We have had another busy week here at the Sheriff's Office. We started out last Sunday investigating contraband coming into our facility. Unfortunately, one of our detention officers was arrested during this investigation. The investigation involving state and federal agencies is ongoing at this time. I will be giving more details when the investigation is concluded. We are currently working on several drug investigations as well. If you are still dealing drugs in our county and have competition, please feel free to call us at 870-352-2002 and turn them in. We're here to help!
Mr. Rucker and his crew have been working hard this week. In the first part of the week, they completed some painting inside the jail. On Tuesday trash pickup was completed on Highway 229 to 167, Highway 273 to 167, North Charlotte Street, Meek Street, CR 208 to Highway 7. They finished the week mowing the Senior Health Center, Extension Office, and Dallas County Detention Center. If you see Mr. Rucker, please show your appreciation for all he does.
