SHERIFF MIKE KNOEDL - WEEKLY UPDATE 08/02/2024

Hello everyone, Chief Deputy Mike Foster here filling in for Sheriff Knoedl while he is on vacation. I hope everyone is taking the appropriate precautions during this dangerously hot weather.

I want to inform you about an upcoming drill at Fordyce High School on Monday, August 5th starting around 10am and continuing until approximately 4pm. Please don't worry if you see numerous emergency vehicles (Local Police, State Police, Sheriff's Office, Fire, Ambulance, and others) at the school on this date and during this time. Emergency first responders will be conducting training, in conjunction with school officials and teachers, on responding to the school in the event of an emergency situation. During part of this drill, law enforcement may be using blank ammunition. As a result, there is a slight possibility of the sound being audible outside the school buildings. As a side note, the first day of class will be Monday, August 12th, so students are not part of this drill.

From July 10th through July 31st Dallas County deputies joined law enforcement officers nationwide in cracking down on speeding violations. Most likely you have seen or heard about this effort in the media. This is one of several safe driving operations our deputies have participated in this year. Some of this year's previous operations have included distracted driving (texting, etc.), driving while intoxicated, mandatory seat belt usage, and drugged driving. The following are just a few of the violations where our deputies took enforcement action during this latest 21-day enforcement period: 423 vehicles were stopped for speeding. The overwhelming majority of these speeding contacts were for vehicles traveling more than 15mph over the posted speed limit. 4 arrests were made for driving while intoxicated. 22 citations were issued for no liability insurance. 17 arrests were made for driving while the driver's operator's license was suspended, and 28 criminal arrests were made. Overall, deputies had contact with 606 vehicle operators who were violating State law. These aforementioned safety operations are conducted by our deputies on an overtime basis during their off-duty time. Their salaries for these overtime hours are paid by a federal grant administered through the Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office.

Mr. Rucker and his crew worked on picking up trash on Highway 8 from Fordyce to Ramsey this week. They assisted the city with working on the old water fountain on Main Street in Fordyce. During the hottest parts of the day, Mr. Rucker's crew stayed busy doing general maintenance around the Sheriff's Office and Jail.
