SHERIFF MIKE KNOEDL - WEEKLY UPDATE 08/09/2024

Updated: Jan 16

I hope everyone has survived this brutal heat this week. I know I'm ready for cooler weather and the hunting season!

As most know, I took last week off and enjoyed some rest and relaxation. Major Foster and everyone took care of business as usual. I can't say enough great things about all of my staff from Detention Officers, 911 Dispatch, and Deputies who work extremely hard for our county each day. Thank you!

The week started with active shooter training at Fordyce School. Training began with instructors addressing Fordyce staff on preparing for any incident that may arise within the school involving a violent attack. This is training that I have wanted to schedule since I became Sheriff. I want to thank the Fordyce Police Department, Fordyce Fire Department, Pro-Med Ambulance Service, SRO Griffin Hubbell, and the Fordyce School Administration for making it successful. At the end of the training, scenarios were completed involving an active shooter situation. We hope and pray that nothing like this ever happens, but we must remain vigilant and train for it. I can assure everyone we will be prepared for it now. See pictures of training at Fordyce Schools below.

Speaking of school, school starts in Fordyce next Monday, August 12th. Please drive carefully during this time, remembering to watch for children and school buses. I've attached a diagram detailing when vehicles must stop for stopped school buses.

Mr. Rucker and his crew have been busy again this week. He started the week by picking up trash on CR 131 from the county line to Highway 167. They cleaned up around the Senior Citizens building, the Health Department, and the Office of Emergency Services. Several mechanical issues were repaired around the detention facility this week. He and his crew are currently working on repairing fencing around the courthouse.
