Good morning,
I hope everyone is doing well after this long, brutal week of heat! Hopefully, we are on the tail end of all this heat.
The week began with searching for two juvenile children who were kidnapped by a non-custodial parent. We searched several residences in Fordyce and the county, attempting to locate the children and the parent who had taken them. Before noon on Monday, the two children were dropped off at Camden City Hall unharmed. We continued searching for the parent after receiving information they were back in Fordyce. There was still an active warrant at that time for kidnapping out of Ouachita County. Sometime after 2:00 PM the suspect was found hiding in a closet at a residence in Fordyce and was taken into custody. The suspect was arrested and remains in the Dallas County Detention Center facing additional charges not related to the kidnapping. Some of these extra charges include possession of drugs. (Methamphetamine)
Yesterday, we assisted the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office with a high-speed pursuit that originated south of Hampton. All Dallas County Sheriff's Office, and Fordyce Police Department units responded to assist. Speeds exceeded 120 MPH during this pursuit. I am happy to report that the suspects were eventually stopped around Thornton and taken down with a felony stop. These suspects were transported back to Calhoun County Jail and faced numerous charges related to the pursuit.
On Wednesday I received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a truck abandoned on Highway 9 north of Holly Springs. I contacted Deputy Tim Wofford to investigate and have the vehicle towed due to being partially in the roadway. Upon arrival, Deputy Dusty Walton began to search for the driver of the abandoned truck. Deputy Walton went to the Holly Springs store where he came into contact with a male subject who was found to be the owner of the vehicle in question. This suspect was found to be wanted for absconding. Upon questioning the suspect, he attempted to throw a bag at the female with him. The suspect then began to flee on foot from Deputy Walton. Deputy Walton deployed his taser and the suspect was taken into custody. The bag was recovered and found to contain a large amount of methamphetamine. This is a prime example of a routine situation escalating into something more serious than an abandoned vehicle. There is nothing routine about police work!
I want to commend my Deputies for their hard work this week! The above-mentioned incidents are just a small sample of the work completed this past week.
Speaking of hard-working employees, Mr. Rucker and his crew have been busy this week. They started the week by refurbishing a trailer used by the county. Trash pickup was completed from Princeton to Ben Few campgrounds on Highway 8, and from Highway 8 at Ramsey to Highway 9. They spent a day hauling off scrap from around the jail. They have had a full week working out in this heat.
We are quickly approaching the Labor Day Holiday and as you've probably heard or seen in the news media there is a "Drive Sober or Get Pull Over" high-visibility enforcement campaign starting August 16th through September 2nd. Dallas County deputies will be joining law enforcement officers nationwide again this year in an effort to deter impaired driving and the resulting tragedies seen during previous Labor Day Holiday periods. During this period, expect to encounter sobriety checkpoints as our deputies and other law enforcement officers strive to locate and remove these drivers who endanger themselves and others sharing the road. These checkpoints can occur either during the daylight or at nighttime, so please drive safely approaching these checkpoints, and be prepared to stop and present your driver's license and vehicle paperwork. The goal is to get you back on your way as quickly as possible while ensuring the driver is not impaired by alcohol or drugs.
Get ready for Felony Friday!
