Good morning,
I hope this message finds everyone well this week.
I will start this week with an update on a joint investigation with the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Sergeant Jordan Ables has worked closely on a suspect who has been introducing contraband into detention facilities around the state. This has been a long-term, complex investigation that began with an arrest here at our detention center. I will not go into detail about the contraband, but it was discovered quickly by Sergeant Ables and how it entered our facility. The suspect was apprehended at our facility and is now facing federal charges. I want to commend Sergeant Ables on his involvement and work on this case.
Next, I don't need to remind everyone that deer season is approaching quickly. I want to remind everyone to be sure and lock up before leaving camp and please don't leave valuables inside your camp. If you're leaving side by sides or four-wheelers at the camp, please secure them as well. Place game cameras in strategic areas to capture any illegal activity if possible. This can make a huge difference in helping us to recover and arrest thieves who come to our county to steal from our hunters.
With that said, please be safe and inspect deer stands before getting in them on opening day. Every year we see accidental falls that could have been easily prevented with a little work before the season. Let someone you know where you will be hunting in case of an emergency. That goes for loved ones at home too. Every year we will receive a call about an emergency at home and the caller will not know where the person we're trying to contact hunts. Make a plan before leaving for camp!
Mr. Rucker and his crew are busy keeping our roads clean this week. On Monday they picked up trash from Highway 229 from Carthage to CR 126. On Tuesday CR 206 was picked up after the county mowed. On Wednesday trash pickup was completed on Highway 229 to Highway 8, Highway 273 to Highway 167. Last Saturday was spent assisting with trash pickup at Sawmill Days in Sparkman and cleaning the football field. They finished the week Highway 79 bypass and Highway 79 up west Fourth Street was completed. This is the time to remind everyone to secure those corn bags in the back of your vehicle. Mr. Rucker works very hard to keep our roads clean, this is something easily preventable. We have dumpsters around the county to dispose of trash from your vehicle. I'm already seeing these corn sacks in our ditches.
In closing, please know we are working on several open drug investigations. For those people, I say, see you soon!
