Good morning,
The weather has been nice, especially early in the morning. It just needs to stay that way all day.
My week started off on Sunday afternoon answering a call from a concerned citizen about a possible drunk driver. I caught up with the vehicle on Highway 167 and observed it driving erratically. After initiating a traffic stop and conducting a field sobriety test the suspect was arrested. This subject was extremely intoxicated and presented a danger to the public. I appreciate the citizens reporting any illegal activity. A simple call such as this can possibly save someone's life. Thank you concerned citizens of Dallas County!
We want to remind everyone that the Distracted Driving campaign begins October 20 -26. Law enforcement around the state will be out looking for people who are distracted while driving such as texting etc.. On the same note, we received an overtime grant to work campaigns such as this. We received $80,500.00 total for this year. I want to thank Major Mike Foster for writing/applying for these grants that ultimately save our county thousands of dollars each year. We have received several grants for equipment this year as well. I'm proud to say we are as well-equipped as any Sheriff's Department across the state.
Mr. Rucker and crew have been hard at it again this week. His week doesn't end on Fridays all the time. He picked up the football field last Saturday. He and his crew picked up trash at the beginning of the week on Forestry and Mentor streets here in Fordyce. He assisted the early childhood agency in Sparkman by moving filing cabinets to another location. They moved onto the old football field in Sparkman to pick up limbs and clean up for an upcoming event for the community. Trash pickup was completed from the Ouachita County line to county road 209 on Highway 7, he will finish Highway 7 to Dalark today sometime. To put this in perspective, they have literally picked up Highway 7 from county line to county line!
I want to ask everyone to keep all of the people affected by the hurricanes in their thoughts and prayers. Some have lost everything they own during these horrific storms.
