SHERIFF MIKE KNOEDL - WEEKLY UPDATE 10/20/23

Good morning,

Another week in the books at the Dallas County Sheriff's Office.

I can't believe it's been 10 months since being elected to serve as your Sheriff! I can tell you I'm proud of the progress that has been made. I came into the office with several goals, which I shared with you while campaigning. I'm happy to announce that most of my first-year goals will be completed by January. Two of my top priorities were securing raises for all my staff and cultivating a positive working relationship with Fordyce Police Department. I want to thank the Dallas County Quorum Court members and Chief Chad Eubanks/Mayor John MacNichol for making that happen. Most importantly I want to recognize and thank all of my staff for their hard work and dedication to serving you, the taxpayer! I'm only as successful as the people around me. I'm sincere when I say this, I appreciate the support that has been shown by the residents of Dallas County as well. Thank you!

All full-time certified personnel passed their firearm qualifications on Thursday. This includes qualifying with pistols, rifles, and shotguns. While we pray, we never have to use them, it is imperative that everyone stays proficient with all the different tools we utilize in today's law enforcement continuum. I will remain committed to continued, advanced training for all personnel here at the Sheriff's Office.

On Wednesday evening, while deputies were conducting a checkpoint on Highway 8, a vehicle turned around on the highway attempting to avoid the checkpoint. A short pursuit ensued with the suspect turning onto Russell Road where a slower vehicle in front of the suspect forced the fleeing vehicle to stop. The suspect was arrested without incident and taken into custody and charged with numerous traffic violations. Dallas County Deputies Keith Axsom and Jordan Ables assisted the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office in making two felony arrests involving stolen firearms and possession of drugs. The circuit court was held this week, which took up most of the day. You can see the results of the court day listed below on felony Friday. I will be reporting soon on a total of how many years have been handed down during sentencing since the first of the year. I want to recognize Prosecutor Jeff Rogers and his Deputy Eric Marks for their hard work and dedication to ensure justice is being served in our county.

Mr. Rucker and his crew assisted Hope Place on Monday pouring concrete for a walkway and handicap ramp. The rest of the week they were busy picking up litter from Holly Springs south to the county line, then from Highway 273 towards Fordyce, which was completed yesterday. He and his crew will mow and weed-eat here at the Sheriff's Department today hopefully for the last time. They will be working tomorrow morning to clean up after tonight's home football game between Fordyce and Harmony Grove.

The distracted driver campaign will continue through Sunday. You will see stepped-up law enforcement efforts to focus on distracted drivers! Stay safe and stay focused while operating a vehicle.
