Good morning,
Finally, I think the heat is behind us and hunting season is here. It is by far my favorite time of the year! I was off Wednesday for a doctor's appointment as a follow-up to my surgery. All is good and the doctor released me to full duty at this time. I am looking forward to getting out of the office a little more than I have been.
Speaking of hunting season, the youth firearm deer hunt starts this weekend and I want to wish all participating good luck. Please remember to comply with the hunter orange safety regulation. Please be safe while out there with the youth in the outdoors and teach them the right way!
We have continued to wrap up the new budget for next year for the Sheriff's Office and the Jail this week. We are continuing to work on several new drug investigations and hope to bring closure to some of them soon. Retirement plans for these drug dealers are underway and the paperwork is almost completed. There has been ongoing maintenance going on here at the jail. Our jail administrator has occupied her newly renovated office this week. Much of this work is cosmetic which is way overdue.
We assisted the Fordyce Police Department this week on a domestic incident where the victim had been struck in the head numerous times with a baseball bat. I am happy to say the suspect is in custody and the victim is recovering according to reports I received today. Deputy Dusty Walton responded to a domestic incident at Carthage where one subject was treated for a stab wound that was not life-threatening. Both suspects were booked into the Dallas County jail on various charges. Remember our motto here for our drug dealers. Play stupid games and win stupid prizes!
There are a couple of people I am asking for prayers this week. Mr. Rucker tested positive for Covid and has been off all week. He is doing much better and recovering as expected. The next is a person I will not name but used to work here at the Sheriff's Office and a person I consider a close friend. He is currently in the hospital in Little Rock being treated. Penny's husband is experiencing some health issues and needs our prayers for a speedy recovery!
Deputies and staff were at the civic center Halloween night with Safety Pup handing out candy to the kids. Safety Pup also made an appearance at the schools to discuss safety with the kids. I want to give a big shout-out to everyone who assisted us in making this a huge success. Samantha Axsom, thanks for all you do to help out with events such as these! It is very important to me to connect with our youth here in the county and understand we are here to help them anytime we can. I want the kids to know they can trust law enforcement and not be afraid of us. It is imperative that we all do our part to ensure the safety of our children and set them up for success in the future! (See Pictures)
I want to wish everyone hunting in the morning good luck!
