SHERIFF MIKE KNOEDL - WEEKLY UPDATE 11/08/2024

Good morning,

I hope everyone is stocked up on the Little Debbie snack cakes because deer season is here!

Last weekend, I spent time with two of my granddaughters, who harvested deer. My youngest granddaughter took her first deer while sitting with me. It suddenly occurred to me that this was probably the last first deer I would see taken by my granddaughters. My point is to get out and enjoy making memories with family while you can. My girls are growing up way too fast.

We have been a little shorthanded due to having three deputies in training this week. I want to thank those part-time people who stepped in to answer calls for service. I want to mention the Fordyce Police Department this week in my report. Fordyce Chief Chad Hubanks took some time off and I oversaw the operations this past week for him. I want to brag on all the officers at the police department for their hard work and dedication to our community.

I want to thank the Fordyce School District and the community for recognizing all first responders at halftime of the Fordyce - Rison game. I can assure you it meant a lot to all of us to be recognized and thanked for our service! In this culture, it is easy to only see the negative aspects of law enforcement. We want to make sure everyone knows we are only here to help serve our county in any way possible. That's why we all consider ourselves PUBLIC SERVANTS! I frequently remind all of my staff of who they work for, and that is you the taxpayers.

Mr. Rucker and crew have been hard at it this week even with all the rain. He and his crew completed trash pickup from Highway 167 and Highway 48 to Highway 9. They spent much of the rest of the week picking up trash around dumpsters across the county. The end of the week consisted of them doing general maintenance around the old OEM building and Cooperative Extension building.

I want to mention Vickey Selman's passing, who was laid to rest on Wednesday. Miss Vickey, as I called her, was the county judge's administrative assistant for many years. I always admired her because you never had to guess where she stood. Her knowledge will be sorely missed at the judge's office. I ask that you keep her family in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with their loss.

Please don't forget that Monday is Veterans Day. I'm asking you to say a prayer for all of our veterans who bravely serve to protect our freedom. Take a moment to recognize those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Our freedom is not free!

Now, on to Felony Friday:

Gordon, Turner, of Carthage, DWI

Songer, Devan, of Leola, Hold for Court

Ellison, Harvey Lee, of Fordyce, Hold for Court

Patton, Servanthra, of Fordyce, Aggravated Assault; Criminal Mischief; and Disorderly Conduct

Boswell, Roger, of New Edinburg, FPD Arrest: Failure to Appear

We are wishing everyone a successful deer season. Please be sure to be safe while out in the woods and wear your required hunter orange and identify your target.

God Bless

Sheriff Mike Knoedl
