Good morning,

It's been another busy week at the Sheriff's Office.

The week started last Saturday night with a pursuit that began at the Calhoun/Dallas County line when a suspect failed to stop at a DWI checkpoint. The pursuit continued north on Highway 79 at a high rate of speed with Deputy David Estes leading the chase. The suspect vehicle attempted to turn on Highway 167 south and locked his vehicle up. At this point, Deputy Estes made contact with the rear of the suspect vehicle causing it to lose control, and ended up in the ditch disabled. The driver and a female passenger were taken into custody. Upon searching the vehicle, a fully automatic AR-15 assault rifle, drugs, and cash were seized. The driver is currently held on a $150,000.00 bond at the Dallas County Detention Center. Fordyce Police Department assisted us during the pursuit and helped take the suspects into custody. Thanks to all for a job well done without anyone being injured! Also, that night, our checkpoint took 2 suspects off the road for Driving While Intoxicated. Our DWI/Safety program will continue into the New Year. Please drive carefully while you are enjoying your Holiday festivities.

Now, onto a more positive note. We have raised over $8000.00 for our Shop with a Cop program! This beats last year's total by over $1000.00. I want to personally thank everyone who donated to this very worthy cause. With your help, we were able to put a lot of smiles on kids' faces yesterday. We had 36 kids participate and were able to spend $235.00 apiece on gifts of their choosing. I have been participating in this program for 18 years now and can say without a doubt, it is one of the most rewarding programs I've been involved with. Not only are we able to assist these families in need but it allows us to interact with kids in a positive environment. This lets them know we are always here to help them anytime they are in need. Once again, please know how much I appreciate our communities' help in pulling this off. I have asked the Fordyce Police Department, Arkansas State Police to join us in this endeavor.

They, along with the good people at FBT Bank and the management of Walmart helped make all this possible. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to those who assisted us. I want to give a HUGE thanks to my Administrative Assistant, Penny Mclain for organizing this event and keeping us all straight!!

Mr. Rucker has been working some this week to finish up his career for the county. He was recognized with a plaque at the monthly quorum court meeting. He and his crew have been cleaning and general maintenance around the detention facility. I want to reassure everyone the county judge and I are committed to keeping our roads and highways clean. I will be reporting more on this later.

Before the next weekly report is due, we will have seen Christmas Day. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas to you, your family, and your friends. Remember, the reason for the season.
