SHERIFF MIKE KNOEDL - WEEKLY UPDATE 12/29/23

Good morning,

I hope everyone's Christmas was a great one! I was blessed to spend time with family and friends. As we complete our first year here at the Sheriff's Office, I can honestly say most of my first-year goals have been accomplished. With that said, we have much work left to do in this second year. While I don't post much religious stuff here, I read something from a devotional I want to share with everyone.

A new year brings with it hope, excitement, optimism, and new goals. While it is not possible to predict what this year will bring, it is possible to be intentional in your walk with God and keep your heart in tune with what He is saying through His Word. Maybe last year is not one you care to remember, and maybe you made your fair share of mistakes. A new year brings with it fresh opportunities for a clean slate, new beginnings, and a time to create new habits. As a follower of Jesus Christ, every resource has been given to you to pursue your God-given destiny.

As you begin to create new habits and behaviors, you will see the goals you set become realities and even new goals after that. The previous year's disappointment will soon fade away and be forgotten. Today, if you have not planned for the new year, take time to set some small achievable goals to establish early momentum. Establish some early goals for every area of your life and watch your outlook on life begin to change.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!

2 Corinthians 5:17

If you have traveled around the county very much you have probably seen stepped-up law enforcement efforts. We participated in a DWI Checkpoint with Grant County last Friday night at the Saline River bridge on Highway 167. Grant County checked all southbound traffic while we checked all northbound traffic. I want to thank the Fordyce Police Department for their assistance during this checkpoint. It takes numerous law enforcement personnel to safely do one of these larger checkpoints. There were numerous citations issued, along with some drug seizures. I will provide a total breakdown of all checkpoints next month after the new year is completed. Please be patient should you enter one of these checkpoints. Remember, these are for your safety to deter/keep impaired drivers off our Highways. Remember the National Winter DWI Mobilization date will continue through January 1, 2024.

If you are out on the roads this holiday weekend, please stay safe. Wishing you all a very

Happy 2024.

I want to mention again how successful our Shop with a Cop program was this year. The donations are greatly appreciated, and I can tell you it made for many happy kids!

Mr. Rucker and his crew have been busy picking up trash. He completed pickup from Sparkman to Dalark on Highway 7. In between trash pickup, they have completed some renovations here at the jail office. They have finished painting walls and preparing to lay laminate flooring here in the administrative offices of the Detention Center. On Tuesday his crew cleaned up around area dumpsters after the remains of Christmas. He ended the week assisting the city Police Department in cleaning up and moving boxes from their administrative offices. PLEASE be sure not to discard your trash around dumpsters if they are full.

In closing, I want to thank everyone for your continued support! I feel good about the positive changes we have made here in just one year. I can't say enough about how proud I am of my staff here. I can say without a doubt, from dispatchers, deputies, detention officers, and administrative staff of how blessed I am to have them working for you!
